Audio Postcards from Alaska

Audio Postcards from Alaska is a collection of place-based improvisations and field recordings from the Last Frontier. Since we can’t bring our Alaskan chamber music to the stage this summer, we have decided to bring our musical adventures and a window into our creative process to you.

Ritual At Eagle River

Ritual at Eagle River is a ritualistic, spatial exploration of the quiet interaction of sounds within a natural space.  It was performed at Eagle River in Juneau, AK.

Blue Moon Pale Breath

The culminating project of Art Farm 2015. We collaborate with Jay Kreimer, Adam Zahller, and Laura Rubeck for an intense exploration of the land.

Twilight On the Prairie

Twilight on the Prairie is a site-specific spatial improvisation in a restored 19th century barn at Gjerloff Prairie, Prairie Plains Resource Institute, Marquette, NE.  In this long duration performance, instruments and found objects are dispersed throughout the barn, and performers interact with and imitate the natural environment.  The piece explores the resonance of a historical barn mid-restoration and references the dialogue of ecological sounds of a summer night on the Nebraskan prairie.

Aus Den Sieben Tagen

Recording Aus Den Sieben Tagen by Karlheinz Stockhausen is an ongoing project for the Kroko Israelsen Duo. Several recordings of the cycle made during their 2015 Art Farm residency are dynamic, esoteric, and meaningful improvisations. 

​

Each recording of Aus has its own unique instrumentation and energy.

Consider the 3PM Moon

The three radios come to life, asserting their consciousness through synchronized bursts of noise. They overthrow their human overlords by reharmonizing their brain waves with amplitude demodulation, thus attaining thematic control of the improvisation.

Clear Shapes

We collaborated with local landscape painter Ernest Oschner - whose answers to our questions guided our project in a direction we never expected. We composed the duet Clear Shapes for Viola, Bass, and Electronics where we explore clouds of wind, bird song, and vocal clips of Oschner's interview.

Compost Haven

During 2014, we improvised regularly with the stellarly talented John Collins McCormick. Together - with our found objects, locations, and instruments - we are Compost Haven.
