Aus Den Sieben Tagen
Recorded at Art Farm in Marquette, Nebraska, 2015
Performed by Katie Kroko and Andrew Israelsen
About the Work
Aus Den Sieben Tagen is a seminal collection of 15 text scores by Karlheinz Stockhausen. Written in 1968, the compositions challenge the performers' intuition, not their musical intelligence. Each of these works demands listening from all performers, and seeks the rejection of cliches and schemes from the music. Stockhausen seeks the spiritual attunement of the musicians as an ensemble through Intuitive music. (Lely and Saunders, Word Events, p 362).
Recording Aus Den Sieben Tagen is an ongoing project for the Kroko Israelsen Duo. Several recordings of the cycle made during their 2015 Art Farm residency are dynamic, esoteric, and meaningful improvisations.
Each recording of Aus has its own unique instrumentation and energy.
Aufwärtz was performed solely with discarded books and a candle flame. Our interpretation of this piece explores the variety of textures and timbres of paper, and it was performed in an early 20th century one-room schoolhouse with a high ceiling, clapboard walls, and a wood floor.
